Your teeth do so many things for you and your smile; they allow you to eat with ease, brighten and beautify your smile, and help you to speak and articulate properly. So obviously, you’d like to keep your teeth for life. What should you be doing now to ensure the health of your smile for years to come? Dr. Robin Cropper and our team are more than happy to give you some advice and tips for helping your smile last for a lifetime.

Dental Hygiene
Dental hygiene is incredibly important for the health of your smile. We advise that you brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes and that you floss daily. Also brush your tongue to remove plaque and to prevent bad breath. You may also want to consider the use of mouthwash.

Use the Proper Tools
A great thing to look for when choosing dental hygiene tools is the ADA Seal. This seal indicates that the product has been tested and proven effective. Always choose a soft-bristled toothbrush. We advise the use of an electric toothbrush for more thorough, effective brushing.

Eating Habits
You probably know that what you eat can affect your smile, but do you know what you should and shouldn’t eat? Eat healthy foods like whole grains, dark green and orange vegetables, and fruit. Avoid sugary foods like candy, cookies, cakes, and breads, as the sugars can be converted into cavity-causing acids. Sticky sugary foods are even worse, as the sugars will stick to the teeth.
